The Possible Benefits of CBD Oil

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD, has been met with a surge in popularity in recent years for its holistic healing properties.

CBD is one of the main active ingredients of cannabis— and while it’s an integral component of medical cannabis, it’s actually derived from cannabis’s cousin plant known as hemp.

While there’s still a significant portion of the public that stands against cannabis and cannabis use, it should be heavily noted that CBD on its own does not in any way replicate the “high” effect of cannabis that is only found in the compound known as THC.

According to a 2017 report from the World Health Organization (WHO), “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential… To date, there is no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”1

May Help in Easing Pain

Through recent studies, scientists have found that one of the main components of cannabis that may contribute to pain relief is CBD.

Our bodies contain a specialized system known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which helps regulate vital functions such as appetite, sleep, pain, and immune system response.2 We in turn produce endocannabinoids— neurotransmitters that attach to cannabinoid receptors in our nervous system.

Preliminary studies show that CBD may play a role in reducing chronic pain by influencing endocannabinoid receptor activity, interacting neurotransmitters, and reducing the inflammation that causes pain.3

May Help with Soothing Certain Anxiety and Depression Symptoms

Depression and anxiety are two of the most common mental health issues that people are afflicted with on a long-term basis. According to the World Health Organization, depression ranks number one in the cause of disability globally, whereas anxiety disorders are number six.

The usual treatments of depression and anxiety come in the form of pharmaceutical drugs that typically come with a myriad of unpleasant side effects; including agitation, drowsiness, insomnia, headache, and sexual dysfunction.

Additionally, some of these medications can become addictive over time, leading to hard substance abuse.

Research points to CBD oil possibly being able to help with some symptoms of depression and anxiety.

May Contribute To Clearer Skin

A large portion of the population is plagued by frequent acne breakouts of the face and other areas of the body.

Many things are thought to contribute to this phenomenon, including genetic predisposition, inflammation, bacteria, and the overproduction of sebum (oil of the skin).

Recent studies indicate that CBD oil may prove a worthy opponent against all things clogging pores and causing unsightly breakouts. This is due to its purported anti-inflammatory properties and thus possible ability to reduce sebum production.

One study discovered that CBD oil may prevent sebaceous gland cells from releasing excessive sebum by employing what appears to be its anti-inflammatory ability, which inhibited acne-causing agents from activating in the first place.4
